La Isla de Pascua está localizada en medio del océano pacifico sur, a 3700 km. de las costas de Chile, es el territorio más aislado del mundo. Pertenece administrativamente a la región de Valparaíso. Con una superficie de 166 Km cuadrados y forma triangular de un relieve sinuoso y árido, por su condición de zona volcánica. Cada ángulo corresponde a un volcán: Poike, Rano Kau y Maunga Terevaka. Todos inactivos. Encierra dentro de sus costas la cultura más avanzada en toda la Polinesia. Considerada como el mayor museo arqueológico al aire libre del mundo. La isla es posee una belleza natural y misteriosa cultura ancestral de la etnia Rapa Nui, cuyos únicos vestigios corresponden a enormes estatuas conocidas como moáis (torso masculino, de nariz larga y orejas alargadas).
Sitios para visitar:
Caleta de Hanga Roa o Tai, donde además de ver las actividades de pesca, podrá ir en bote para conocer los lugares que rodean la isla.
Complejo ceremonial Tahai, centro religioso político más importante de la tribu Marama.
Volcán Rano Kau, destaca por su laguna dentro de su cráter de 1 Km. de diámetro y 280 m. de profundidad.
Complejo ceremonial Akahanga, donde fue enterrado el primer rey de la Isla.
Volcán Rano Raraku, principal cantera donde se realizaba el tallado del Moai.
Ahu Tongariki, plataforma funeraria más grande.
Ahu Te Pito Kura, donde se encuentra tumbado el Moai más alto
Te Pito o Te Henua, gran piedra perfectamente redondeada que señala el ombligo del mundo para los antiguos Rapa Nui.
Ana Te Pahu, lugar donde se encuentran 3 cavernas, sus rocas filtran el agua de lluvia y su acumulación forma una piscina.
Ahu Akivi, donde están los únicos Moai que miran hacia el mar.
Vinapu, Ahu ubicado al extremo sureste de la pista de aterrizaje de la isla.
Puna Pau, cantera de escoria roja volcánica.
Playa Anakena, de aguas tibias y arena coralina.
Playa Ovahe, de origen volcánico.
Rapa Nui posee un agradable clima sub-tropical con temperaturas fluctuantes entre los 18º a 27º durante todo el año. Aguas cálidas y playas de blancas arenas de coral calificadas de paradisíacas por los visitantes.
